Timeline of the Georgian Affair

1922

12 March	Transcaucasian Soviet Federation is established, bringing together Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia.
22 October	Nine out of eleven Georgian Central Committee members resign in protest against the policies of Stalin and Ordzhonikidze on the national question.
Late November	Ordzhonikidze strikes Kobakhidze (dissident Georgian former Central Committee member). Dzerzhinsky is sent to produce a report on the situation in Georgia.

1923

24 January	Lenin requests, but is denied access to, Dzerzhinsky’s report.
25 January	The Political Bureau endorses Dzerzhinsky’s report and its findings, which defend Stalin and Ordzhonikidze.
1 February	Lenin is given access to Dzerzhinsky’s report by the Political Bureau.
5 March	Lenin asks Trotsky to defend the dissident Georgian Central Committee members on his behalf.
6 March	Lenin writes to Georgian communist leaders offering his support against Stalin and Ordzhonikidze.
10 March	Lenin suffers his third stroke, preventing further political work.
