Core Argument

This chapter is a straightforward acknowledgements section, listing the individuals and institutions whose labour made the volume possible. The core narrative thrust is to credit the archival recovery and editorial coordination that underpins the book’s publication. The text names Paolo Brini, Francesco Giliani, Alun Morgan, Rob Sewell and Harry Whittaker as the researchers who carried out extensive work across different archives and universities. Specific repositories are cited: the Glasgow Caledonian Archive of the Trotskyist Tradition, with thanks to Carol McCullam and Philip Wallace; the universities of Hull and Warwick, which host the archives of Jock Haston and Jimmy Deane; the Senate House archives of Al Richardson in London; and the Trotsky archive at Harvard. The bulk of the research is said to have drawn on the archives of Sam Bornstein and Ted Grant, reorganised by Francesco Merli. Alan Woods is thanked for providing internal documents from the Workers’ International League and Revolutionary Communist Party from his personal archives, material described as otherwise impossible to trace.
