Note on Dates

Until 14 February 1918, Russia used the Old Style (Julian) calendar, which was thirteen days behind the New Style (Gregorian) used in the West and which is standard today.

All dates referring to events and publications in Russia before 14 February 1918 are given in the Old Style, with all other dates using the Gregorian calendar.
