[1] Mamontov’s cavalry corps was directed by Denikin to deliver a blow in the rear of the Soviet troops on the Southern Front. On __PRINTERS_P_515_COMMENT__ 17*—2075   August 10, 1919, Mamontov’s cavalry broke through the front in the vicinity of Novokhopersk and raided a number of towns and villages This created a threat to the Soviet forces, made offensive operations difficult, and upset the system of command and supply in various places. Lenin considered it an urgent task to organise the rout of Mamontov’s corps (see Collected Works, Fifth Ed., Vol. 39, pp. 171–72). Mamontov’s corps was routed in October-November 1919.
